About ValverdeWho is responsible?
Valverde Power Solutions Inc. is a privately held Canadian corporation, incorporated in Alberta, with offices in Calgary and Plano, Texas. It was founded by former Denbury Resources executives to develop natural-gas power projects with integrated carbon capture, and holds a master licence to Clean Energy Systems’ oxy-fuel technology.
Reliable power. Practical decarbonization.
Valverde develops integrated power and carbon-management projects for industrial facilities that need dependable electricity and a practical route to lower operational emissions.
Our view is that renewable generation alone is unlikely to meet North America’s growing electricity demand in the foreseeable future. Natural gas will remain a critical part of the mix because of its abundance and reliability. Pairing it with carbon capture is how that gas can keep delivering dependable power while its emissions are dealt with — and integrated oxy-fuel generation is a practical way to do it at an industrial site.
We are not a technology vendor. Our job is to coordinate a viable project: facility requirements, fuel, oxygen, generation, carbon handling, storage, engineering, commercial agreements and financing interfaces — and to carry it through defined gates to a financeable decision.

Gareth Roberts
Chief Executive Officer and Director
Brings: CO₂ operations at scale, capital markets, project origination. Founder and 20-year CEO of Denbury Resources (NYSE: DNR), the CO₂ enhanced-oil-recovery operator; founder of 2CO Ltd, the UK carbon-capture developer behind the Don Valley project.
Full biography
Gareth is an entrepreneur and the founder and long-time leader of a large public oil and gas company. Born in the UK, he studied geology at Oxford University before working for Texaco and Murphy Oil in the US and UK. In the 1980s he became independent and founded Denbury Resources, which grew into a $10 billion company under his leadership. He stepped down from Denbury and has since been involved in creating businesses in carbon sequestration and helium exploration.
Gareth has been involved with businesses in Canada since 1980, when his first company was funded on the Vancouver Stock Exchange; he led a successful US exploration effort for Calgary-based Coho Resources, and Denbury itself became a Toronto Stock Exchange-listed Canadian company in 1992 through a reverse merger with Canadian Newscope before listing on the NYSE.
After the 2008 financial crisis he left Denbury and, through 2CO Ltd, engineered a complete carbon-capture project at a UK coal plant with North Sea storage; the UK government elected not to fund the project through completion. That experience in CO₂ capture and storage, and in oxy-fuel combustion, led to the formation of Valverde. He holds Honours and Master’s degrees in Geology from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, where he is an Honorary Fellow and a member of the Chancellor’s Court of Benefactors. He is a trustee of the Horsfall Trust in Bradford and chairman and owner of Bradford (Park Avenue) AFC.
